Every artist has a dream to be at the top of his love, his passion, his love of art. I, Amiya Nimai Dhara, once dreamed to be a good artist, but nowadays I think I am quite famous.
About my educational bio-data, I can share that I passed my Bachelor’s Degree, specialized in Sculpture, with First Class, and my Master’s Degree specialized in Sculpture from Kala Bhavana, Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan, West Bengal, India.
In my academic life, I studied nature deeply, such as houses, trees, birds, animals, Santhal children and boys’ expressions, tribal villages and valleys (khoai), through my sculptures and paintings in the conventional Santiniketan style.
I have gained knowledge of working in all possible mediums of my faculty, with technique, such as painting, mural painting on any material, plaster, cement, fiberglass, wood carving, terracotta, metal casting and stone, etc.
Art is another form of language—a language that expresses reality, truth, pain and love. An artist creates from an individual point of view, based on versatility, expressed through artistic variety. Artists have different skills; when an artist works on pain, at the same time they think about the joy of life and happiness.
I, Amiya Nimai Dhara, believe that I am not only a versatile artist but also an experimental, new-thinking artist; all my works prove my versatile skills.
My thoughts, my ideas always symbolize reality, society, nature and emotion; in another way they express science fiction, travel experience and memoir.
All my works express mortality and morbidity. The reality of life—such as pain, love, joy, happiness, mature creation, etc.—is mainly formed into my sculpture.
I did many different, high-thinking, naturalistic, epic works, such as
My works give us messages about the highest education—one that does not merely give us information, but makes our life in harmony with all existence.
The Indian competition selected the topic of poet Rabindra Nath Tagore’s children’s poems—poems based on allegory with symbolic stories: sketch story, fable, dance, drama, tragedy, comedy, memoir, biography, childhood expression, travel, science fiction, etc. In one word, we can say that Rabindra Nath Tagore is a realistic poet, a versatile allegorical and symbolic poet.
So I feel easily inspired to work on my painting, mural & sculpture with this topic, because through all my artworks I also feel I am a versatile artist.
In that way I created new painting & sculpture subjects on childhood expression, using the feelings of children’s activities and thinking, as per the given topic.
