His Biography

CALOGERO SALEMI was born in Racalmuto (AG) in 1966.
Self-taught and always passionate about art, he devotes himself to painting and sculpture, earning over the years wide acclaim from critics. From a very young age he began with drawings and works made with tempera, pastels and ink, then moved on to oil on canvas and his first sculptures in wood and stone. At the age of twenty-one he held his first solo show at the Town Hall of Racalmuto. He spent his youth in his beloved Sicily and in 1990 moved to Brianza. He is deeply attached to his homeland, where he returns every summer, but he is also in love with the colours of Brianza.
In Brianza he met the painters Lorenzo Piemonti, Fernado Carcupino, Lino Brunelli, Angelo Fumagalli, Carlo Riva, Aldo Saruggia, Fernando Moscatelli, and other artists.

The CV

He has taken part in numerous group exhibitions in the municipalities of Vimercate, Monza, Besana Brianza, Selinunte, etc.
In June 1999 in Carate B.za he organised a group show at Villa Cusani, with the above-mentioned artists among the participants and the painter F.N. Carcupino, to whom he was bound by a deep friendship that lasted until his death in 2003.
In addition to the Racalmuto show already mentioned, he held other solo exhibitions: June 2000 in Macherio (MI); February 2003 in Lissone at the “Cento firme” Furniture Palace, presented by art critic Dr Renato Tomasina, receiving broad public and critical acclaim; and December 2006 in Carate B.za (Costa Lambro) at the “Taverna degli artisti”.
He has taken part in many competitions, winning among others a second prize in February 2000 at the “Efebo Prize”, an award in September 2001 at the 40th national “Agnate” competition, third prize in February 2001 at the national competition “Premio arte 2001” Cral Poste Milano, and mentions in 2002, 2004 and 2006 at the international “Agazzi Prize” in Mapello. His latest success in sculpture is the 1st Prize “Sant'Anatalone Sculpture Competition”, organised by the PRO LOCO of Carate B.za, where the president of the judging panel was Lorenzo Piemonti, in September 2007. Latest success in painting: third place at the National Biennial Competition of Villasanta (MB) on 23/05/2010.
Since January 2006 the work “Crucifixion" has been housed in the Holy See.
On 02/06/2008 he was awarded the title of Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic by the President of the Italian Republic, “Giorgio Napolitano”.Solo exhibitions

From 15 May 2010 to 23 May 2010 solo exhibition entitled "Signs, Matter and Sensations" at Villa Campello, Albiate (MB); the exhibition continued until 01 September 2010 at the restaurant "Taverna degli Artisti" Carate B.za.
In January 2011 he paid tribute to Pope Francis with the work "Saint Sebastian".
In June 2012, a solo retrospective exhibition in Verano B.za (MB) at the Municipal Library.
On 29 November 2014, group exhibition at Galleria Tadini in Milan organised by Basezero Auction House.
Selected by ARTPROTAGONIST 2015 for an exhibition at Villa Contarini (Piazzola Sul Brenta PD) from 06 December to 15 January 2016.
In January 2016 he created "Gash Art" (The Art of the Tear), a new and original artistic vision.
