Biography exhibited during the BIENNALE MILANO – International Art Meeting 2019 presented by Prof. Vittorio Sgarbi
Master of the abstract-impressionist movement, mail artist, with the artistic flair of one born under the sign of Gemini, he has devoted himself to painting since a very young age.
His love for drawing began as a child, watching Alberto Manzi’s TV literacy program Non è mai troppo tardi. “I copied what the teacher sketched to explain the meaning of words. For me, those afternoon appointments with the program were a true course in artistic literacy.” In that period, his feeling for drawing and painting was born, leading him, from a very young age, to make his public debut at just seventeen, taking part in a cultural event promoted by the Associazione Amatori d’Arte of Lecco, his hometown.
In those years, devoted to work by day and study by night, the young man painted, however, at night. He stole hours from sleep to express, with brushes and colors, the ferment and anxieties that sprouted within him and needed to turn into marks and compositions that revealed his feelings. Viving the desire to know the artistic trends of the time, to take part with his own experiences in Milan’s creative life. He regularly frequented galleries and contemporary art museums, a crucible of artistic experiences, with the wish to learn and expand his knowledge, analyzing and studying the works on display to grasp their meaning, to delve into their process of execution within his own context of self-teaching and experimentation. Without teachers or inspirers, his art evolves spontaneously and impetuously, in the solitary search for an expressive mode that could satisfy the urgent need to externalize intense yet delicate feelings, rooted in a private poetic world.
In his works emerges this energy born of constant research and the will to experiment with new techniques and materials, from watercolor to material collages with stone inserts, passing through more traditional pastels and oil painting. Hard to place within precise artistic movements, his vision as an artist is defined by his own words written in ’75 “art, being the display of individual feelings, must not embrace movement schemes that would condition the instinct of expression, but must consist solely in the visual expression of an inner feeling, joined to a personal search”.
His paintings are characterized by a strong introspective emotional charge. The places, people, and objects depicted are those dear to him, part of his lived experience, and are represented on canvas after passing through the filter of memory. Carlo Maria Giudici’s artistic language strikes the viewer, because emotions and feelings flow into his works, turning into expressive force with strong chromatic intensity. He is an artist who does not stop at the stillness of essence, but aims at continuous pictorial evolution and an expressive search, which materializes work after work with a powerful surge of color.
Color itself thus becomes a vehicle of extraordinary relevance in conveying the artistic message, since on the one hand it fosters expressive communication between artist and viewer and on the other it reveals an indispensable joy of living, understood in all its shades: from overcoming shadows to the bursting of light. And it is precisely in this pictorial motif that the artist’s enigma is found, able to emerge from the abyss of suffering and rise from the darkness of the soul to reach the peak of luminosity and with it the triumph of color. An inner redemption that gives a message of hope and a shining emotion to the artworks signed Carlo Maria Giudici.
