The Critique

The strength and energy of Ornella De Rosa’s painting, aka DRO, lie in a deep, rooted feeling for art and in an immense devotion to the vital vibrations generated by what surrounds us. Her depictions demand respect and conceal their enigmatic mystery, wrapped in an inherent coded key, in which the sensitive, perceptive viewer must be able to grasp and absorb a language made of underlying messages, embedded within the narrative, and identify the salient traits and conceptual contents. Spatial perspective is projected into a timeless dimension, toward a vision that evokes a figurative realism belonging to an enduring tradition, always current. In the act of creation, the artist fully identifies with the reproduced image and becomes the very warp and weft of what she portrays, as if to transfer her vital pulse, imprinting dynamism and enveloping everything in a frame of poetic lyricism. Her perfect knowledge of the techniques of the masters of the past allows her to maintain a vocation for continuity, while developing a distinctive, independent style of her own. Text by Paolo Levi - Art critic and curator, essayist and journalist She was born in Brescia and lives in a village in Franciacorta, where a few years ago she opened her Atelier, as DRO. Since childhood she has felt the need to express herself through art, choosing over time to follow this inclination and passion. Her artistic training began at the Wins Academy in Brescia, where she specialized in painting and decoration. Later, Ornella De Rosa crowned a path of artistic experiences also through numerous international exhibitions and events that made her renowned in highly prestigious venues. Founder of “Arte Viva”. Her stylistic-expressive research immediately found its way to figurativism, which she is able to raise with great masterly technique, after exploring multiple artistic disciplines, materials and methods applied to a recognizable style that is wholly intimate and personal. In DRO’s pictorial cycle, we find painted surfaces inhabited by female creatures who dominate space with plastic, three-dimensional monumentality, thanks to her technique of the mark rendered by ever more incisive color and by the thin black line of the outlines; and whose planes of bodies or faces, thanks to increasingly articulated poses, manage to create movement within broad flat expanses and chromatic fields in contrast with ivory complexions. Works in which bold plays of shadow and light appear, to the point of giving the impression of investing the viewer with the same emotions, yet without revealing the feelings of her enigmatic, mysterious female figures. Images that yield sensations of intense empathy and allure, especially in the gazes of the “femme fatale”, which, from the brilliance heightened by a kohl line or by a flower in the mouth or in the hair, echo in the space that envelops them: sensory mysticism and exploratory sensuality poised between reality and dreams. Muses with a thousand facets, each with her own personality, express languid oblivions and, filled with purity and sober elegance, give way from romanticism to the image of the more independent contemporary woman.
