His Biography
Born in Modena in 1967, Gian Luca Galavotti has been painting since childhood with curiosity and an innate skill typical of an artist. In 2004, thanks to a commission, "Blue Clouds" was born; a work that gives Luca awareness of his own talent.
Luca, as since he was a child, always paints out of passion; his works and his artistic project, called "chicchiderba", are in constant evolution, with a steady growth in appreciation from critics and art lovers.
Since 2006 he has exhibited his oil paintings in numerous solo shows, taking part in Art Fairs (New York, Paris, Bergamo, Milan, Genoa, Forlì and Beijing) and group exhibitions in Italy and abroad (London, Berlin, Barcelona). His works are featured in various publications (art catalogues such as CAM and Senazioni Artistiche, magazines such as ARTE, etc.).

The Review
He states that he paints out of passion, and the bursting, powerful “pathos” marks and involves all his artistic production, from the most recent works to the early ones from his beginnings as an artist.
Sunflower, the Padon series and, no less, the ironic Donald Duck, are some of the fine works born of the inventiveness of Gian Luca Galavotti, a self-taught painter yet already mature in content and in the thematic choices drawn from his personal life as a man and as an artist, and mindful of singular, intimate memories.
The most meaningful moments and views are fixed on canvas and deliberately placed in the foreground, almost to stress the “mysterious” importance held within them—perhaps never fully knowable to us—kept in the author’s memory.
The painter synthesizes, in well-defined yet essential volumes, the detail of a landscape, a naturalistic fragment and the evocative effect, admirably pursued, of day and night.
The technique of clearly distinct fields of colour clarifies the volumetric form of the Greek domes and at the same time enhances them through the thoughtful, calibrated use of light and shadow. Bold, sunny, vivid colours sharply define the outlines of forms and at times take space and the upper hand over them, becoming dominant, to the point of making an apparently simple, everyday subject exclusive and unique.
In the clear, crisp sky stand warm Mediterranean landscapes, exotic Mexican glimpses and fairy-tale grains of wheat that rise almost by “magic”, lifted by the wind, in an almost allegorical, fantastic dimension.
Within them take shape the artist’s inner emotions, a world of tensions and spiritual vibrations that draw the viewer’s attention and resonate like a concert in the soul of the observer. The emotion released by the image seems to continue, like the image itself, beyond the boundaries of the canvas and reach an intensity that will never be lost.

They are moments stolen from memory (like photographic shots) that leave to anyone approaching the figure a total, personal continuity in interpreting the subject.
From a roof, from a bale of straw, from a pier (all solitary), each of us can continue the journey, completing with our own memories the image we are admiring. Few people can have the privilege of filling the voids.

The art of making perceptible—visible and audible—that marginal element that interests only peripheral attention yet becomes the fulcrum of the holistic experience engages the whole work of Gian Luca Galavotti. Just as 8 Hz are not audible unless involved in a binaural tonal performance at 432 Hz, so a decisive cognitive attractor—like the red of a dress or the exclamation point of a sentence—cannot be defined as such unless zoomed within its context so as to highlight its essential nature. Galavotti carries out this process not only through a targeted enlargement, but also through a chromatic stripping-down of the depiction. Contrast underscores divergent elements and defines forms. But without the binary melody the golden frequency would never reach our ear, and without the summary, monochrome contextualization the point of colour would never emerge to our eye. Thus highlighted, the single element becomes the object of infinite interpretations and re-contextualizations, because from a simple punctuation mark it has been transformed—thanks to creative intervention—into a pheromone of storytelling.
