| His Biography I WAS BORN IN ROME ON 14.05.57. I APPROACHED PAINTING AT A VERY YOUNG AGE, FREQUENTING THE CIRCLE OF PAINTERS LINKED TO THE INFORMAL TRADITION. FOR MANY YEARS I WORKED AS A RESTORER FOR SEVERAL FIRMS. DURING THIS PERIOD, I TRULY DISCOVERED HOW I COULD BE CONNECTED TO INFORMAL PAINTING AND EVERYTHING AROUND IT. I BEGAN TO WORK HARD IN A STUDIO I SET UP MYSELF, CREATING POLYMATERIAL TECHNIQUES, WITH IMMENSE SATISFACTION. EVEN TODAY, WHENEVER I CREATE A PAINTING, AFTER SO MUCH EXPERIENCE ABSORBED, I FEEL A SENSE OF TORMENT, LINKED TO THE DESIRE TO PERFECTLY ACHIEVE WHAT I SEE, DEEP WITHIN MY BEING. CREATING MY CANVASES IN A PLEASURE, ALMOST ECSTATIC, I TRY TO FIND THAT PEACE THAT CHARACTERIZES THE PROJECT AND THE ACTIVITY OF A MODEST PAINTER LIKE ME. Exhibitions held: * MARCH 2008, “IL CANOVACCIO” GALLERY, GROUP SHOW, ROME * JUNE 2008, “LA TELACCIA” GALLERY, ART REVIEW Turin- San remo-Montecarlo. * SEPTEMBER 2008, “IL COLEZIONISTA” GALLERY, ART FESTIVAL LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD, ROME * NOVEMBER 2008, O.A.D. Considering Alberto Burri—as indeed he is—one of the greatest masters of the twentieth century, Lalli starts from his research to dig deep, down to the abysses of consciousness. Burned, abraded, cut, literally wounded and brought back to new life, the canvas undergoes a kind of purification. At times one must destroy and corrode appearances to find the right path. In Grande cantiere (2008), a work shown on the occasion of the project “Dialoghi”**, the very title suggests getting one’s hands dirty to build something new, which eludes the polished surface of reality to move toward essence. It is a process that concerns the soul, even before the outside and the canvas, or better still that manifests itself on the canvas only when it has reached full maturation in the subconscious, often in apparent disagreement with any logic whatsoever. Homage to Burri and Untitled, both from 2009, are also the representation of that continuous and unceasing tear, an ideal laceration of what is most sacred for a painter, namely the canvas, an indispensable condition for the attainment of Truth. |
